Events | Teach the World
This Youth Forum welcomed 270 middle and high school delegates and opened with a keynote panel of PSU students from countries in East Asia and continued with breakout sessions representing the ancient and magnificent cultures of CHINA, JAPAN, KOREA. This unique cultural immersion experience also included a continental breakfast and mid-day Korean meal, Taiko Drum performance, and East Asian Market and Information Fair with members of organizations representing several East Asian countries. Breakout sessions addressed history and contemporary issues, art and architecture, theater, music and dance, language and calligraphy, religion and ceremony and pop culture. The Forum ended with each Youth Delegation outlining an East Asian Action Plan as a way to share what they have learned with their school.
Relations between the U.S. and China, Japan & Korea directly affect the lives of people the world over. Understanding these countries and their people are an essential part of the skills and knowledge needed to live and work in an increasingly interdependent world. The World Affairs Council of Oregon and PSU’s Institute for Asian Studies are partnering in a concerted effort to increase this understanding.
