Events | Headline and Cultural Forums
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED. His Excellency Mauro Vieira, Brazilian Ambassador to the United States, had to make an unexpected return to Brazil. If you've already purchased tickets to this event, we will be contacting you shortly to issue a reimbursement. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
What lessons can be learned from Brazil and the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) nations? In recent years Brazil has become a growing economic and political powerhouse - navigating the global financial crisis, becoming a center of manufacturing while also lifting 28 million of its citizens out of poverty. As President Obama remarked recently, “Those who argue that democracy stands in the way of economic progress must contend with the example of Brazil.” Vierira discusses Brazil’s role in the global economy and opportunities for new partnership with the US, particularly around science and education.
Ambassador Mauro Vieira was the Brazilian Ambassador to Argentina prior to being appointed Ambassador to the United States. He holds a JD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and graduated from Instituto Rio-Branco, the Brazilian diplomatic academy.
