Student and Educator Applications Now Open For 2017 Youth Exchanges

In partnership with the US Department of State and World Learning, the World Affairs Council of Oregon is recruiting Oregon participants to participate in three Youth Leadership Exchanges.

Program costs including air travel, lodging, food and cultural activities are all covered by the US State Department.  Student applicants must be U.S. citizens and 15-17 years old by the start of the exchange.  Follow the application links below to apply and learn more. 

Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program: July/August, 2017

This US-based exchange brings together 30 Iraqi and 10 US high school students for leadership activities and dialogue sessions.  Participants begin with a teambuilding week in Vermont, spend two weeks in partner host communities across the US, and reunite in Washington DC to meet with State Department officials.  Learn more and apply at: www.iylep.tumblr.com/highschoolenglish. Youth Ambassadors Program with Brazil: April/May 2017

9 US high school students and 1 US adult mentor will be selected for this exchange.  Participants will travel to Washington DC, Brasilia, stay in a local host community, and finish their trip in Rio de Janeiro.  Student applicants must attend public, public-charter, or home school.  Adult applicants must work with youth in high school or community setting.  Learn more and apply at: www.wlyap.tumblr.com/apply.  APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 13.

Youth Ambassadors Program with Argentina & Chile: April/May 2017

9 US high school students and 1 US adult mentor will be selected for this exchange.  Participants will travel to Washington DC, Santiago, stay in a host community in either Chile or Argentina, and finish their trip in Buenos Aires.  Student applicants must attend public, public-charter, or home school and have an intermediate-level of Spanish.  Adult applicants must work with youth in high school or community setting.  Learn more and apply at: www.wlyap.tumblr.com/apply.  APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 13.
